I have a few questions. I've heard that a tank pad would be a must.. would this do for me (yes, im looking for the cheaper options on this)?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tank-pad ... 0303QQrdZ1
Also, would a rear stand be a good idea? I saw a few on ebay for about $50.. good deal?

For those of u who have an SV, what would your suggestions be as far as maintenance? How many miles before i do what? How often should i oil the chain? hehe, sorry about all the newbie questions.

Oh, and i definitely know to take her in after 600 miles... I was quoted at about $100 for the whole process (including oil change), so im ready for when that comes.. That's gonna be awhile..
I dunno if i'll get 600miles in before spring.. winter gets pretty damn cold in WI... I plan to just practice in parking lots and on the block around my house (my town has 3000 people in it.. and there isnt any traffic near my house at all) until it gets warmer/ i get more confident and take it around town. I most likely wont commute with it until its April or so... unless i feel like I'm up to it, and i have a LOT of warm clothing!

tank pads should prevent scratching from your zippers. i doubt it will help that much to save you from pain in case you slam your nuts into the tank.

you might as well get some tank bras. or better yet, get those ones that have tiny plastic spikes. people that have them said they really work when you're pushing your thighs on the tank.

on the rear stands... it's a big help when doing some minor maintenance. clenaing and lubing my chain has become less work bec of my rear stands.

yah.. im gonna order the little tankpad soon here.. im mostly concerned about a bunch of scratches from my zipper.. thanx :)

I'm gonna order the rear stand soon here.. i'm hoping to get some more gear (namely gloves, boots, and pants in that order).. I would order some gloves tonight, but I worried they wont fit. I've tried on gloves and Large seems to be the general fit for me, but i tried on some Large Ladies gloves (dont laugh.. lol) as a joke and the fit perfectly.. i think they were alpinestars. Dont get me wrong; I'm 6'2", and I have some really big hands, so im not sure how the ladies gloves fit me, so im not sure if i should risk ordering gloves online.. what would be some good places to order some gear? I know to go to kneedraggers.com.. any other good ones?

for a helmet, Icon gave me the very best fit. I tried shoei, HJC, ScorpionExo, Arai, and many others.. Icon was the only one that fit just right. And the styling wasnt too bad either. I preferred the Shoei design, but it just didnt fit right.

that's cool.

and yes, fit is the most important.

post pics of the bike once you get it.

do you plan on putting a lower fairing on it?

oh, most definitely. In fact, my wife is extremely adamant about that because she feels that it is very 'ugly' with out the lowers. Bleh, she also hates the color, so i cant win anyway..lol. I'm gonna wait a season (most likely, unless i get impatient.... i bought a bike at the beginning of the cold season in WI, so i think its pretty evident how patient i am) of riding before i do.. just in case i drop her, i dont need to break the lowers. I do also plan on getting frame sliders.

I do want to get a rear tail cover, corbin seats (if the stock ones arent very comfy for me), lower fairing, full set of frame sliders, new exhaust, and maybe a an air/fuel/timing mod someday..
