The technical information on helmets is somewhere on here.

To put it shortly the inside of your helmet is lined in a type of expanded foam, it's this foam compressing that stops the full force of the impact from being translated directly to your head.

Once this foam has been compressed it dosnt uncompress so one down with a head inside and the helmet loses a lot, if not all, of its lifesaving potential.

It's done its job, mount it in the garage where you can see it every time you go for a ride.

That's a bad attitude to have on a bike. You should always be proactive about anything and everything when riding, including your riding skills.

SilentX, best wishes. Get back on the saddle and yes, learn what mistakes you made and don't make them again. Crashing is expensive.

This is like the 3rd time on a canyon.. ya not much of exp.

I think it would have been the same on bigger bike too.. no difference. except for the cost to fix..

One thing I figured, I cant lean the bike too far down, I slide the foot on the road.

I wasn’t going really fast either. Just caught the gravel. slid the front, just was trying to make a perfect turn, like MSF taught. And go too close to the gravel at the entrance.

I'll get over it... and ya.. I've learned the lesson. Never get too close to the gravel.

I am extremely careful when I am riding with traffic. But this time there was no traffic. and I guess I was unlucky.


I got in to a Car accident like 5 years ago. (wasn’t my fault. the other driver ran a stop sign) but after that I was super careful when driving.

I guess I will be extra extra extra careful (not that I wasn't) when I ride my bike in a similar situation again..



As for the helmet I'll probably get a new one... though I cant see any form broken in or anything.

No I was not trying to catch up, if thats what you trying to get at. It was an easy turn, in fact it was almost straight. ( like a 10 degree turn)

Oh, not that. You gave good advice, I wanted to post up some info on impact absorbing foam, but you beat me to it too. I never get anything cool to say around here
