As far as the christmas present thing. Christmas isn't about giving presents, but it's also not about punishing your child by NOT giving them presents. People shouldn't use christmas as an opportunity for punishment anymore than the should use it as an opportunity to have a shopping spree. My parents got me presents when they could (even when I did things I shouldn't have) when they had the money, and when they didn't have any money, we got to enjoy christmas music and a fireplace. But my parents never took christmas as an opportunity to punish me.
As far as the ADHD thing, that's absolutely no excuse for misbehaviour. It's not ADHD takes away your judgement or anything. It justs makes it harder to sit still and concentrate on one thing. I had (probably still have) ADD, and yeah, I did screw up alot, but the two were by no means related.

You must not have been reading the news lately. A psychological disorder, any disorder no matter how minor, completely absolves you of any and all responsibility for anything you do.camthepyro wrote:

Case in point, the woman who just drove off a bridge with her boyfriend's (not hers) kid in the back seat. They blamed it on her "extreme emotional distress"...what??
By definition a criminal has some kind of social or emotional problem...some kind of deviancy. But its being used as an excuse.

That really depends on the severity of the ADHD. My brother has it pretty badly, and without his meds he's exactly like jstark described. With his meds now (he's grown up some) he really feels bad about a lot of the stuff he did. But without them, he has no ability to control himself at all.camthepyro wrote:As far as the ADHD thing, that's absolutely no excuse for misbehaviour.
