I ride a pre 98 katana, 92 model to be precise.... and its a step down from yours 600cc version.... any two wheeled contraption is going to have enough oomph to get you in trouble with just a quick wrist flick.

The 750 will be a little more upright, and have a smidge more power.

Both of em are heavy as sin though. The big guy part doesnt matter, If 600 lbs of bike gets a little momentum toward the ground....That will make lower speed stuff a touch harder. harder to pickup when you drop it, (though youll be fairly pissed when you do, which helps).

I-4 so its by nature a touch er, twitchier than a twin or thumper.

little harder maintenance if you're doing your own. 4 carbs to synch/tune which are a god awful pain in the butt to get off and on. /shudder, stupid rubber boots.

Plastic, lots of it to hurt/replace in the above mentioned fall.

On the other hand, its reliable. I don't have much trouble finding parts, decent on gas if you arent laying in to it, can actually tour a bit once you get some bags etc on it. I think of it as like a camry, Hey! this is pretty fun to drive..... but you can still take it to the beach on vacation.

All in all, i'd look at something else first, but its a decent ride. I'd go with a gs500 in whatever version. at least as a First bike.
