slipper clutch

a friend of mine runs at the race track and says the slipper clutch allows him to drop down a gear in a tight corner and not lock up or skid the back tier.

Thats pretty much it, but you don't really need to run a race bike that hard on public roads and the engine braking a traditional clutch gives you is more useful for daily driving.

Pretty much. Makes no difference on acceleration. Just when downshifting when you don't have the rpms matched to the speed.
