I've got a pair of Hein Gericke blue jeans with knee and hip inserts. To be honest I'm not sure they are much lighter than leathers, however they do stand up to a low speed drop better than normal 'work' jeans.
I also run a pair of Draggin Jeans combats with knee inserts. Theres no hip armour and the kevlar protection dosnt extend to the whole of the combats but they are very light weight and easy to wear.

I just got some Tour Master Venture pants. Comfortable. Knee and hip armor. Removable liner. Very warm with the liner. Also it rained like crazy today, and I was nice and dry when I got to work.

Don't think of it as a stop light. Think of it as a chance-to-show-off light.
