Nothing wrong with a one-cylinder. Bet it sounds better than the twin

I learned on a one thumper, and I still love the little beast. I miss her now in fact. Hope her replacement is even more fun

Congrats on the bike - one other thing you can do before being allowed to ride it - get some pics posted up on here! then we can all admire it!

wait... your' thumper has two exhuast pipes? an FT 500 should only have one... I've never seen any one cylinder anything with two pipes. Sure it's not a parallel twin (and therefore not a ft 500) which would in most cases have two carbs whereas a V would most likely have one. Are the badges still on it, if not, the model number should be in the vin.
anyway, thumpers rock! nothing pops like a thumper.

It should have two pipes coming off the head (one for each exhaust valve) going into one pipe out back. It may also have two carbs, in spite of having one cylinder. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though.

That's correct. My old 1987 XT350 was a single cylinder but it had 2 carbs(1 for low end and the other for mid to upper) and 2 exhaust pipes. You'll be pleased with the bike. Like the others said it's not your last so don't sweat the details.

It has two pipes comin' out of the engine leadiong to one exaust pipe. Sorry for the confusion, went back and reread my post and even I was a little confused at the my explination. Do need to get some pics up for you, though! Took it on a short ride yesterday and just loved it! Finals ending today and I think I might take a little ride around the local lake.
One small problem I had was that the grip was a little loose on the throttle and when I really cranked it the grip would slide a little to the right and not grip tight enough. Was really releived, though when I looked down and realized that this was the problem and not a gutless bike!
Thanks again for the help.
