Thanks for all the feedback :) The R1200GS and the Vstrom are lookin like they would be ideal (although the 1200 has a hefty pricetag). Also i'll look into Horizons Unlimited.

Monkey: I'm going to the show this Saturday ;)

Almost forgot, i'm planning to go from Europe to China, which would probably include going across Canada first. Glad I have a couple years to research ;)

Some stuff I managed to dig up from old magazines.

BMW 1200 GS ADVENTURE: 8.7 US Gal. tank, 35 - 43 MPG
Suzuki V-Strom 650: 5.8 US Gal., 41 - 52 MPG
Kawasaki KLR 650: 6.1 US Gal, 46 - 58 MPG

The regular BMW 1200 GS only has 5.2 Gal. tank and roughly same mileage as the Adventure but much shorter.

I can't seem to find the issues with the old Triumph Tiger or the V-Strom 1000.

There is Suzuki V-Strom.... either the 650 or the 1000cc. Both are considered tried and true all purpose standard/touring bikes. Kind of like a poor mans BMW touring bike. You sure are starting to plan early..... but that's good....... a lot of people are in a hurry to buy a bike before they asked themselves the most important question "What kind of riding do I want to do?"
