When I started riding, there were no coarses to take. I started on small bikes and road in the dirt.
If had taken a coarse I would not have had to learn the hard way....many twisted and sprained limbs as well as a generous dose of road rash.
I assume you are reasonably mature given your age, so if whatever bike feels good..ride it. You know your thresehold....DON'T exceed it and you'll be fine while your skills improve.
