That's quite a bike alright..... I am tempted to mod my rear wheel (skip the chrome though). Several wheels fit with little work, but the easiest is from the 88-89 GSXR's..... just like the one I have in my backroom...... :humm:

A 17" rear wheel really updates the look of the bike, not to mention finding tires that size.... and the fact that the front is a modern radial and the rear is bias-ply balloon
The stock 150x16 rubber is a bit too....Harlyish.

Yeah & we can't have that!

At least with the V-Rod (& son of V-rod) they have decent size rear wheels.

As for the usual Harley's....well you can't rush H-D into improvements too quickly, might have to wait another 100 years or so....Doh!

dont take this the wrong way but sounds like your a poser/squid type.

your after the look at me factor and by doing so your gonna runin your bikes handling. a 180 or 190 might not seem to radical since the new supersports are using them. but it will greatly slow steering and slow you down in the canyons. and of course sap hp and add weight. not a good mod. u see?

or you can go real jesse james and do 250mm or so and then you can remove your kick stand!

i know it takes all kinds, but this is a pricey usless mod with the only so called benifit is to impress the unexperianced wanna be bikers.

take care :D

Maybe I barked up the wrong tree... I actually thought I might get better performance out out of a wider tire... but it seem I was wrong... and I am big enough to admit it... that's why came here to get as many opinions as possible... as far as being a poser... no... I would say just smart enough to know that I don't know everything... Thanks for all your "honest" opinions... I will be sure to post a pic when I am done...

Gee Bigp99, you took that on the Chin with good Grace, well done!

I wouldn't like being potentially called a Poser/Squid.

i was not attacking you. just trying to keep you from wrecking your ninja. :frusty: those who do that mod are generally poser's who have know idea how a bike works nor cares about the performace. just after the look and wow factor.

your bike was designed as a sport bike with track duty in mind. the designers at kawasaki knew what they were doing with the tire sizes.
of course tire compounds are a different matter with compermise for the street, mileage and cost. there are several tires available now that will out perform those stockers designed back in 87. bias-ply tires have come a long way and you should stick with bias-ply in your sizes.

so since you were going to do it as a performance mod and now should know that it will hurt performance. it still sounds like your gonna do it? what gives??

:D

I hope you didn't get the impression I was trying to carve on you for your idea. I can understand wanting to make your bike unique, I was only trying to piont out that it will be a hard mod to make work. Fitting the wide tire will be the easy part, driving the wheel will take some serious modification and money. And it will impact the handling and performance in a negative way.

But you will be the only guy you ever meet with that done to your 500R....
