The guys that rode around the world did it on R1150GS Adventures. The previous generation. Google, "Long Way Round" it's a great mini-series. A real reality series. Well worth watching if you haven't seen it.
The R1200GS and R1200GS Adventures are great improvements over the R1150s. I test rode one and it felt great. Great handling and power even for how tall it is. It's tough to beat and I think last time I checked it was BMWs best selling model.
