05 and forwards S50 is EFI, not sure about the S83, but I would suspect that it's EFI.

I suggest waiting for the dealer's "demo days" and try it out.

I thought I wanted one model, but after demoing them, I bought a different one.

S series still aren't EFI (Fuel System: Front: Mikuni BDS36 Rear: Mikuni BS36). The M & C series are EFI (Fuel System: Fuel Injection).

I live in Northern Pennsylvania and, my '06 S50 is a bit of a hard start on cold mornings. But, as long as you give it about 2 minutes to warm up on full choke, you're ok. Once it's warmed up, it doesn't miss a beat.

If you like the Sportster, go for it. Go with what feels right. That's how I ended up with my S as a first bike. It just felt right. And, the hp and torque weren't too far out of line for a beginners bike.

You've got a couple years of safe riding under your belt so the additional hp and torque should be fine.

A professional rider who maintains his bike, is a genious, and is filthy rich should know what he's talking about when it comes to bikes. Moto doesn't get paid to ride, maintains his bike by taking it to a dealer before they ask him not to come back, doesn't know his "O Ring" from his face and makes $10 an hour. His bike, blows thick clouds of black smoke from how he treats it... wait... I'm sure I had a point but it's buried in the piles of crap that moto has strewn about the forum.

Has anyone been able to wade through this "poo poo" or are you like me and stop reading threads after he starts posting?

To the op, the sportster is a beautiful bike. It handles well, looks great and there are thousands of ways to customize it to make it your own, if that;s your thing. I mean, it's not a Vstrom by any means, but it's a great bike. Let us know what you choose.

Oh, and it's only a girl's bike if you let them say that. I have people ask me all the time when I'm going to buy a real bike as they pat their harley. I tell them to keep saying it and maybe it'll come true.

His posts are actually fairly valuable.

The more enthusiasm he has when he says something, the more confidence you can have that it's totally wrong!

A. Moto is hilarious, and sad very very sad.

B. Agreed the fact that it feels good under you is the single best readson to buy any scoot.

C. Sporties are NOT girl bikes. Not that girls make bikes any less desirable. Its just that all the cool old Rat bikes that happen to be Harleys also seem to happen to be Sporties too.
