Two quick points:

1) Kawasaki is the company that is known for not changing a particular model until it needs to be changed
2) Suzuki is "the bike" if you want a sportbike
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Personally, I say the Vulcan 900 is a better buy.

It has fuel injection instead of a carb, it has a bigger gas tank (5.3 on the Vulcan vs the 4.8 on the VTX), it has the belt drive instead of the shaft drive (I like belts better, they rob less power).

The Vulcan is also quite a bit lighter, and with 60.8 ft-lbs at 3800rpms, you should have very good "seat of your pants" grunt.

That being said, the VTX1300 is an excellent bike. If you want to do more highway cruising, it would probably be the better bike, just due to the larger displacement. However, the Vulcan 900 will do just fine on the highway, but it will also be the better choice for around town.

For the money the vulcan 900 is a better buy.

If you have the ability to take a road trip try southern honda in Tennessee. The deep discount hondas and have some 2006 vtx 1300S available.

I agree the Vulcan 900 is a good buy for the money at $7295, but Yamaha is offering $1000 rebates on the V Star 1100, and with the rebate you can get one for $6995, the 07 Suzuki C and M50's are selling for $5495 and are only 100cc's less and they are still shaft drive where the Kawasaki is belt drive.
