Hey thats all great advice. :D

If its not the Honda 919 or the FZ1 I'll go with the Ninja 650 or the FZ6.

The best thing for me would be to get out and test ride them. I already rode the Honda 919 and oh yeah it was FAST. But i could ride it sensibly too.

The biggest thing I notice is everybody that owns a Suzuki never buys another Suzuki, the people that own a Suzuki always upgrade to a different brand, Suzuki has the less repeat buyers.
Where's your statistics on that? I'd by another S50 without a seconds thought. I've owned alot of motorcycles in my time and this one has great value.

Really? Please cite your source. The 2006 Motorcycle Competetive Information Study by J.D Power would seem to contradict "your" assessment.

Why does almost every decent thread on TMW end up being polluted by Moto's trolling, and people trying to refute him (I'm just as guilty...) :frusty: Let's all agree not to feed the troll!

Back on topic: JonBaily, I think LionLady gave some good advice. You'll probably be OK, just be careful at first. Keep the GZ around if you can afford it, it's always handy to have a second bike -- or who knows, maybe you'll have a GF or SO who wants to learn?

Yeah i really hope i can keep my 250 around as it sooo good on gas.

My wife thinks she might learn on it to . Right now she has a Yamaha Zuma (50cc Moped) and she loves riding that.

As far as quality goes i do feel like Honda has the edge from what everyone has said but it wouldn't stop me buying a Yamaha or Kawi or even the right Suzuki.

Its all subjective.

The Suzuki Bandit looks pretty nice. Well im off to a Motorcross Freestyle event with the Kids.

jonbailey,
Keeping the 250 for around the town use is a really good idea. I wish now that I had done that after I moved up to the 750.You can always find a good use for a small bike. The step up from a 250 to a midsize bike is a pretty big one. Careful with that throttle.

MotoF150: Suzuki makes some really good bikes; Especially their sportbikes.

Yeah, I can ride my 250 with out even thinking about it now. I can sure see all the trouble i would get into if i went out and bought a sport 600 ar a 1000 right away. There have been moments on my 250 that i know i would be dead if i was on a GSX 600 or something.

I am so glad i came here for advice on my first bike as they really didnt talk about good first bikes on the MSF course.

If your new and ready to get your first bike, go with a Rebel , GZ250, Nighthawk 250 or a Ninja 250! Even an Eliminator 125 is a good first bike. In England they wont let you get nothing but a 125 at first.

GZ250!! Cool!!

#20 Unread post by stef »

My first bike was a 2005 GZ250. I chose it over the Honda Rebel mostly for the styling. Suzuki did their best not to make it "look" like a little bike. I used mine for a lot of commuting also. Hey, I had mine up to 65mph on the highway a time or two, but I don't recommend it on a regular basis. I had that for almost 2 years, and recently sold it and found a nice '83 Honda Highthawk 750 on Yahoo auctions at a great deal, so this will be my first season on my bigger bike. But I agree, the GZ is a great starter ride for anyone, any shape or size. Have fun with yours!!
