I think so too. I did leave the battery tender on there hoping by some small chance it would recharge enough to start the bike and run it down a couple miles to its new temporary home.

I feel so irresponsible though. This bike should get an oil change before it's run. And I'd bet money the gas in the tank was not Stabiled. Looking at the brake fluid in the reservoir, it looked like it could use a refresh (I didn't look at it with the top off, so could be deceiving through the plastic). As for the tire psi, I'm sure that was not given a second thought...I've got half a mind to take my portable compressor over there in case the psi is low.

I looked at the odo on it tonight: 35xx kms (I'm pretty sure it was kms, its a jpn spec bike). Bike hasn't even had time to get dirty. With a bike so young, I need to take a look at maintenance schedules again and see what is coming up in this early stage of life - if we do consider futher purchasing it.

The ST-2 is a nice bike, if a little short on power.
The ST-3 is one of the nicest riding Ducatis that I have ridden.
The used ST-4 that they had at the dealer last week caught my eye....but it calls for the full desmo-quatro valve adjustment every 10,000km. I have neither the time or the $1000(!) they quoted me for the service every 10,000km!
In all reality 20000km is a more realistic valve and belt service interval and even Ducati has recognized this for 2007 and relaxed the service intervals to match. The ST-2 will also be easier and cheaper to maintain than the ST-4 as well. It's not hard to imagine why a sport-touring bike with ST-4 kind of service requirements is no longer with us....
What happened to the lower fairing on that bike Shorts?

I removed the fairing to get to the battery. The bike has to be moved from the current location to another. Unfortunately, that battery is dead and gone, won't even register to initiate a charge from the Battery Tender so I think a new one may be on it's way.

I hope you get the bike running well! They are great bikes, and I'm sure DH will love riding it.

For maintenance, I don't know KM figures, but in miles, your next service will probably be at 6,000 miles. However, the belts need to be changed every 2 years.. I don't know how long it has been sitting.

But obviously, you should change the oil, the gas, the brake and clutch fluids (the only downside to the hydraulic clutches), check the tires for age and obviously fill them up. You should also send some kind of fuel cleaner through the system, and you might want to re-grease the axles. Don't forget about the chain too! It probably has no lube left on it.

The only thing you should need the shop to do if you don't feel comfortable is the cam belt change (if it has been 2 years, or 12,000 miles), and the valve check (which doesn't need to be done until 6,000 miles if they had it done at 3k miles).

Martin Brickwood Performance makes replacement valve collets that supposedly lengthen the valve check interval from 6000 to 18000 miles. Forum member TechTMW has posted about these before.

Yeah, I posted about them before too. Ducati's collets are better than they used to be, and many Duke owners have had problems with the collets, so I didn't post about them just now. However, I plan on trying them out next valve adjustment I need.
