A classic ride.It will be interesting to see how much these go up in vaule as so many people have abused them and left them for dead.

It looks classic to me anyway. I'm not so old that 31 years isn't a long time. It's no Indian Chief or norton Commando, but I really like the look of the standard japanese bikes from the 60's and 70's. I do hope we can keep it when I get a bigger bike. As I said, I got it for $350 and I probably have $400 in it myself. But it's hard to find a bike that old and relatively nice so I imagine we'll try to keep it indefinitely - as far as I know it has every sticker intact, the manual is perfect and all the tools are in the tool case. I got lucky - the last owner saved everything. Not sure how much the value will go up... but it can't go down I reckon as long as I keep it as clean as I usually do. If I ever did sell it, I'd sell it to a bike lover and I promise not to list it on ebay for three times what it's worth!

Not to mention, the earlier bikess / standards tend to have comfy seats, instead of foam covered planks

You do realize that you'll need to invest in a sissy bar and metal-flake helmet right?

I LOVE those 350's and the 450's with the high pipes. Scramblers I believe they called them. I'm gonna have to hit the lottery and get a bigger garage... there's about ten bikes from that era that would be real fun to ride.

Alas, I have a black helmet. But to be truthful I do kind of lust for a sissy bar!

Hey, CB, anyone who has taken a neglected bike and made it roadworthy has certainly earned my respect!

Instead of being dismissed, you'll probably encounter the same problem other riders of older bikes know all too well: you learn not to stop for gas when other bikers are around. When they notice your clean, sweet, old CB they'll invariably gather 'round and start telling you long-winded stories about their experiences on the same or similar models while they "Ooh" and "Aah" over yours. This is all well and good, of course, but it keeps you from riding!

Amen. I do get comments when I go out. At this point I still enjoy it as I've only had the bike for a couple of months and it's like a pat on the back. I can't take too much credit for it's condition though - I did do a lot of cleaning and I had to rebuild the carbs and the petcock and fix the horn and turn signals, but the best thing that happened to that bike is that it sat in a dry garage and no one rode it for over 25 years. The only bummer is that I'll probably never find that good a deal again and it was the first bike I've ever owned myself! I'm in for a lifetime of disappointment...
