I live in Brooklyn, NY so the bike will be seeing alot of tight traffic with equal amounts of highway. I am not planning on taking many long distance trips but 1 or 2 this year is my goal.. i don't need to be ultra comfortable on the long trips I just want to be sure that I can do 500 miles in a day...I am also hopping this bike will keep me excited for more than one season with its performance..

thanks in advance,
Umm. On an SV650, unless you've got like a 25 inch inseam (which will mean you can't put your feet on the ground), the dreaded "SV butt" will get you. The pegs are pretty close to the seat so you end up riding with your heels about 4 inches from your butt. The hamstrings/butt muscles get quite painful after a couple hours of riding.

My dh had an SV as his second bike and we took quite a few long trips (I had a BMW 650) together. As the day wore on, he had to stop more frequently and stretch his legs.

However, it is a fantasic commuter, and you certainly could take longer trips on it. There is GOBS of aftermarket support out there for the SV's.

>>>500 miles in a day on a motorcycle is VERY aggressive for anyone. Motorcycling is far more stressing than driving a car. What is simply a long day in the car becomes a nightmare of epic proportions on two wheels. You are constantly scanning for danger, watching traffic, etc. etc. It wears you out FAST.

P
It all depends on the kind of person you are. From what I inderstand the ergos on my bike are even more "cramped" then on the SV. But I've had no problems putting in 500miles in a day. Admittedly it takes a lot out of you, but even with very infrequent stops I was able to do it rather comfortably.

[quote="Motorcyclist"You want small, you got it. Honda's 599 is truly pint-sized, with a short reach to the bar (that has a fair amount of effective rise) and the least distance to the pegs from the seat. (That seat is also the lowest in our measurements, some 18mm closer to the ground than the Yamaha is and 21mm shorter than the Suzuki is.) This is a comfortably compact position for smaller riders but cramped for the big lugs.[/quote]

And my inseam isn't 25inches :D. That's the beauty of bikes though, there is so many out there that you'll be able to find something that suits you no matter how you're built.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

If you pay more than $5K for a 07 SV650 ur getting ripped! New ones, the stripped down models are selling for $4699. A friend owns one, after it got 1200 miles the engine started sounding like a bone shaker, sounds like loose nuts and bolts rattle around inside the engine, when he took it to the Suzuki dealer and complained about the engine noise, the dealer laughed and said " you bought it" and "get out" ! I would suggest a better choice would be the Yamaha FZ6 or the Honda 599

Ok so I went to the dealer that sold my friend the bike and I dont know what was up the sales guys butt this time but we made a I think fairly reasonable starting bid and he just said leave... I bid $6200 out the door for an SV650N

So we headed over to the other dealer they didnt have Suzuki but they showed us a Ninja 650 and a FZ6

The ninja was not my style but the FZ6 looked good. They had an 06 that they wanted to get rid of so he offered it for 5800. We decided on $6500 out the door.. for the FZ6. So I am picking it up tomorrow...
what do you guys think?
I got way more hp than I wanted but I thought it was a deal...

oh and this dealer said "FZ6 perfect starter bike" I know thats total bs and i have no idea how he sleeps at night but its his soul...

Motofriend!!! ur my hero!!!! the FZ6 is the PERFECT bike! much much much much better choice than the SV650, the FZ6 is better, faster, looks better and sounds better too and that bike is rock solid you will NOT have a problem with it and what I love about that bike is it has that nice R1 sound from the exhaust where the Suzuki and Kawasakis sound like a chainsaw!

Then why do you own a Suzuki?

Before I purchaced my Suzuki M50 my first choice was the Yamaha FZ6 but the cost to insure that bike was too expensive so I had to settle for a cruiser bike, my 2nd choice was between the Yamaha 1100 V Star and the Honda 1100, but the same dealer at that time at that day just recieved the new model Suzuki M50 and I loved the looks of it and I believed him when he told me its just as fast as a 1100 and it was the first model, I wanted a bike nobody else owned, I wanted to be the first to buy a brand new model so I can be different. I purchaced the M50 for its looks and fuction and the cheaper price, it wasnt in the choice of the bikes I wanted. I made a mistake, but the next bike I buy I won't make that mistake again. Yamaha Warrior or HD Night Rod! Those 2 are my next choice and I won't look at any other bike. When is the Kawasaki Concours 14 coming out?

Some pro you are, believing everything a salesman at a dealership is telling you.

I'd have thought you'd know better than any bike salesman.

i would damn near put money down that he wheelied it.. you cant do that to an SV due to the oil pickup

wheelie on an sv = starved front cylinder

oh, and about longevity.. RandyO on the www.svrider.com forums has toppled over 137k miles on his '99 sv

Pretty much, if u buy anything from the big four, you're good... as long as u take care of it

EDIT:: :frusty: I'm arguing with moto... i might as well be arguing with a Furby...
