ok you have 75K but you fail to mention how many times you had engine work on that bike and thats an older bike that was built to last, the newer bikes from 1998 to now are made to be cost effective meaning they are made cheap and generic, now the BMW, Ducati, Honda Gold Wing are ur higher end bikes that are made to last that 25K to 50K mile, but if ur buying a new bike for around $5000 don't expect it to last over 10K miles. You get what you pay for, you guys can't break the system, no matter what you do, you will never prolong the life of that bike.

My 87 Concours has 40k miles on it. My 81 Silverwing has 27k on it. I had a 650 Triumph that I owned for more that 15 years. It probably had over 100k miles on it. I did rebuild it several times, but at the scheduled maintenance times.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

I've got 18000miles with nothing more then regular oil changes (dino oil) and chain maintenance. Recently (over the winter) did a full tune up inspection on the bike, and there wasn't even any reason to pull it apart. Compression, leakdown, oil pressure everything were well within acceptable limits and virtually identical to the numbers after the initial breakin.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Original engine. No major work done, just regular maintenance like oil changes, brake pads, etc.

Once again, you've proven to everyone here how ignorant you are

Moto is confused once again. He must be talking about tires or something. My Rebel is coming up on 25,000 miles with no engine issues and my S50 has a little over 10,000 miles without issues. My Rebel did need a set of tires and a new chain. My S50 hasn't needed anything yet. new tires by the end of the summer probably, but that's it.

I had a 1990 BMW K75RT that was still running strong at 169k. I bought it with 167k on it in San Diego and rode it home 1300 miles without any problems. I put about 500 or 600 more miles on it before taking the fairing off to replace some parts on my barely broken K75RT that had about 30k on it at the time. I had most maintenance records for it. A couple of clutch plates and at 110k the drive shaft and final drive had to be replaced - which is about the normal lifespan for the splines.

I know of one K75 that made it to 350k before some old lady hit it and sent it to an early grave.

MotoF150, dude how long have you been ridin motorcycles? My old '81 Yamaha XV-920 had 62000 miles on it,never had the engine apart, and it ran great right up until some putz kid in a camaro crushed it. My '98 Suzuki TL1000R (1litre Duc eater)has 45000km and again has never been apart, and runs like brand new. I fully expect 100000km out of any bike (O.K, not a Harley) before even thinking about rippin into it. I am meticulous in my maintenance, and fanatical in my care and feeding of my bike(s). You do have me worried though, will I be able to get my '07 ZX-14 home from the dealership to my house (a distance of almost 150miles.Yikes!!) without a complete teardown and rebuild, should I truck it instead? If I carry a spare engine will I get 20000 miles out of my ZX? By the way my GMC Sierra 5.7L has just over 385000km on it right now, never been apart, and will run rings around your candy-bottomed Furd150.
