Yabbut, the real no-no was not paying attention (he was looking down to his right) just before he rear-ended the guy in front of him.

If you notice closely he lost balance and fell from putting his foot down - and then because of that, he lost control, then hit the rider in front of him.
I did just notice though that he was looking over his right shoulder and then saw how close he was to the rider in front of him...

Putting his foot down had nothing to do with this crash(wasn't the best idea, though. still not a factor).
Notice he is looking down or back over his rightside. Also, his right foot his off the peg and being swung around behind it somewhere as he approches. When he sees he is about to screw-up bigtime, he trys to get his foot back on the rear brake in time and then throws his left foot out in blind fear.
Not looking where he was going and not having all his controls covered is why he has internet fame.
