Hey ghosty... 6'2" 300 lbs... Your only thing will be finding a bike that you can flatfoot... You should be able to flatfoot most cruisers without any problem, and they're plenty powerful for me, so you're golden...

I got my boots on clearence since Winter was over...
25$ (not exactly motorcycle boots, but nice thick leather)
Took a helmet from my boyfriend, he has several (Actually fits well)

There are some good helmet deals on Ebay - Its a good idea to go try some one to see waht size you need, and what kind you like best
(Leather jacket on Ebay for 30$
Another jacket on Ebay for 89$
Gloves 20$ at the motorcycle shop
and I already own jeans.

It doesnt have to be that expensive! I can buy nicer stuff later on.

If your still recovering, why don't you pass on some of the practical tips from the book that we don't here much of here? Or is it the joke sections you like?

Good idea! I need something to do - Im bored outta my mind! I went for a very short ride Saturday, but probably wont again till next weekend.

I will start going through the book this evening, and will post some of the tips that I thought were useful!

Just grabbed the book, actually the one I have been reading the most is "Complete Idiots guide to Motorcycles"! Similar. Its really a neat book! Idiots, dummies - whatever...same thing .

yea dude...i ride a sportster and i have a cortech armored jacket, a fullface, armored gloves and harley boots...im mismatched but i feel more comfortable riding with maximum protection

The full face and black leather jacket on a cruiser doesn't look out of place at all to me, certainly not as out of place as a full face and faux 1970 bad boy gear.

Well, I went to Harrison Honda in Cincinnati, OH and sat on a few bikes. They were really pushing to get rid of some 2006 models. They didn't offer me a very great deal, but I didn't press too hard for one either. I think they said they would let a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit (750cc) in Titanium (Grey)/Flame go for $6200.

Tempting, but that is more than what I have ever spent on a car. I asked him if he thought I should start out on something smaller, like a Rebel and he kinda laughed and said he thought I might be bored with it after a few weeks of riding. He might be right, he might not be. I'm still formulating my own opinions based on my extremely limited knowledge.

It wasn't some young punk salesmen either. He was a Vietname Vet (according to his patch on his leather vest) 60 something older gentlemen who was a talker. Heck, he answered a bunch of my newbie questions and let me try on a bunch of expensive Japanese helmets. I still can't tell if a L or a XL fits better. I read the forums awesome helmet FAQs.

I am pinching my pennies and taking my lunch to work tomorrow so I can scrounge up a few loose quarters here and there.

Buy used if you want a deal. 3rd party, and make sure you take a mech along or read up on what to look for when buying used.
