This is exactly what I plan to do. A.D. Farrow is who I'm going through. I'll have to take off work to do it, but it's worth it (as is a mini vacation ) My only problem now is the fact that Buell's look like they're sport bikes...and I'm going to be buying and actively using cruisers...not sure how much of a difference there's going to be between them.

From what I read, despite the sporty appearance, the seating position on the Buell Blast is more standard than sportbike. Still not a cruiser, I know..... If you've not ridden before, you might find a standard easier to start on than a cruiser, especially for low speed handling.

Jstark is right, the Buell Blast is more of a standard than a sport bike, although it has sporty styling. The riding position is neutral, not leaned forward like on a sport bike. They are very easy to ride and the power will probably be similar to a small cruiser. You shouldn't have any problem.

Where are you located in Ohio? I know the MSF here in Greene County Ohio is only $25 per 3 day session. They provide the bike and even have helmets if you don't have one yet. They just require you wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, over the ankle boots, and biker gloves. The classes fill up fast, but they also have cancelation on a regular basis. All you need is your learners permit, which you can get form the Ohio BMV office by taking the test. If you check the schedule every weekend from now until some time in October is a possiblity in my county. You just have to have the permit and show up for cancelations. Well worth it to save the kind of cash you are talking about here.

The other thing is the MSF seems to have the largest range of bikes to choose from for training. If you get to the range training and assert yourself, you can pick the style of bike you want to train on, although they are all 125 or 250s (generally).

Anyway, welcome, and check out the regional forums for Ohio threads. There are quite a few of us around Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton that will ride together as a group and have been known to have a get together from time to time. Keep your eyes peeled. My wife is Loonette on this board, and also is a cruiser type rider.

I'm going to get a few books this weekend and see what I can learn. Your idea is what I proposed to my BF since he works horrid hours and has more experience than I so it should be a breeze if he can squeeze in. That might be a good idea for me too, to get it done and save that 200 bones for a good helmet (which I'd have to take with me...I couldn't stand the idea of using a "class helmet" ewwwww)

We have a few of us from these forums that will get together for rides once in awhile. "Scan" and I keep our bikes out all year - since we don't have a garage, we still ride our bikes a bit in the winter. Aside of looking (and feeling) like overstuffed marshmallows, it's fun to ride in the winter too.

Good luck getting into a class. When I took mine, four people were no-shows and there were three people waiting to take their place. It's totally feasible. You just have to have your current learner's permit, cash for the course in hand, and any other paperwork they may require for registration. Have fun!

I hope I can get in with the first class I show up at. It sucks because I work at night and the whole Tuesday 6-10 thing cuts right into work hours. I hate to keep taking off every Tuesday for "no reason"...my boss won't like me much after that. Even if I go to AD Farrow, I'm still going to have to take all those days off, but if I go to AD I'd at least know I'd only have to take those days and those days only instead of it being a guessing game.

Unfortunately my bf and I will have to get stuck with parking our bikes outside (apartment ) which worries the crap out of me, but there's another guy in our complex that leaves his Honda CBR outside all year and his has been just fine. I plan to ride mine any day that doesn't have precipitation that includes the winter, so I'd be like you guys

If I was you, I'd consider moving to a place that has a Lock up Garage.

If we get the bikes early, (which I doubt...but you never know...I get anxious) then we'll be stuck with them outside, unless I rent something somewhere and just bring the bikes out over the weekend. But next year after the lease is up I am so after a place with a garage. The car can sit outside but the bikes....they need to be baby'd
