Wouldn't it be awesome if there were pipes with a little volume knob attached so you could tune the loudness to whatever you were doing at the time? Let those bad boys rip on the highway and you could turn 'em down when you come home at 3:00AM and don't want to wake the neighbors.

Yeah, I wish my neighbors had some of those...

From a safety perspective, if loud pipes make you safer, why not just get one of those 132Db Highway Blaster Low Note thingies and wire it up so it's always on, like your headlight. Folks would definitely notice you then, and it's probably cheaper than loud pipes.

Those actually exist. I can't remember where I saw them.

That's awesome.

Going from my stock harley to my stock kawasaki (which pretty much didn't make any noise) was a very noticeable different for my city driving commute. People do notice me and the bike more with the new exhaust I have. That being said - it's maybe as loud as my stock harley was..its not very loud at all. I asked the gals next door whose bedroom window I start my bike under if the bike ever bothered her - she said she didn't even realize I left for work while she was sleeping, so no.

At any rate - I think they do make a difference when you're in a city, probably because of the buildings and the acoustics effect that has. But as I said, my exhaust isn't really loud..it's just not silent anymore.

My horn has saved me on a daily basis from being smashed by people who do not look around and try to move into my lane, and it's just a stock meep. I don't see the point in honking after the fact though.

I believe those are available through Peacemaker (maybe???). I saw a funny little video for them a couple days ago looking at windscreens.

I think you are right. The have a bypass built in that allows you to go through the baffles, or straight out the pipe without baffles.

You'd drain your battery in a couple of miles if you ran a horn like that.


As for loud pipes and saving lives... why do you think tanks are still loud? Because it's tougher to pinpoint the source of a loud noise then it is to pinpoint the location of a quiet one. All the loud pipes do is "pee" off the people behind you (as scan previously stated) and unless you get the proper tune will ruin your engines power production. Not to mention the fact a proper tune will destroy your gas milage on a bike like that. Sighs.

I had a minor issue with a SUV early today. It pulled a left turn directly in front of me so I had to do a quick stop at the green light. It didn't just turn green, it was a stale green for me. So I tapped my OEM horn/bell ringer several times and he actually look back at me. The kind of look like whats my problem. Like I almost met your side door kind of problem.

Anyway I do believe that at least when its warm, the OEM horns do work, especially when tapped over and over rather than a single blast or toot.

I for got to do this at the intersection above, but I'm getting in the habit of turning my brights on during the day on and off just prior a intersection, if I'm going straight. Its not much but I don't see it making me more invisible.

I just switched out the oem horn for this: Simple plug n' play installation using the same plugs. It's a little too big to fit in the original horn location without hitting the fender, so I extended the wires and zip tied it to the frame. Sounds great! I could hardly hear the old horn on the freeway let alone someone else in a car with closed windows.
