Yeah, this might be a good point. If you go for ANY trade-in, you have to plan on losing a lot of money on the deal. If you were willing to take the loss on trading in your car for a bike, you might be willing to take the low amount Carmax would offer you. Worth a try. You must have known if you take a $2000 blue book car into the the dealer, they might offer you $1000 trade-in, so figure on losing out accordingly. If you sell it yourself, you make out better, but you have to wait for the buyer to find you.

I thought your comment was intended to ridicule. My apology if it wasn't. No hard feelings. My temper has been short trying to get everything set up to move.

The dealership I sold for was well-respected and ethical. I have no problems saying I worked there and sold cars for them. Unfortunately, the other 99% of the auto dealerships in the US (and Europe too) are not places that deserve anything but scorn.

I figured that, at best, if a bike dealer took a car in trade, he's only wholesale, which means you get less than wholesale for it, which is worse than what a car dealer would give, generally. I just wasn't sure how it worked, as I have only ever stepped foot into a bike dealer once, and that was to look at his ATVs and boats. :D

Again, my apologies. I have not been in the best of moods lately.

Thanks!

Relax dude, I'm simply being honest. Shall I lie to you? I said I'd laugh because the idea seems silly. I know the purpose if the forum - I've been here for a bit, and I can read.

I sold cars too - not really something I brag about. But taking bikes in for trade on a car lot is much easier for turn around than trading in cars to bike shops.

If its mean spirited advice you're calling me out on, give me a few minutes for a strong response. I don't want to short-change myself the opportunity.

Yeah I'm willing to take a loss on the car if it means I can trade it. I didn't know Carmax would do that, so I'm gonna check on it. Thanks!
