No thanks, to many idiots in cages that normally don't see me, let alone when there busy cutting each other off for a little better position every 100ft.

I actually let people in so they don't cut me off or squeeze me off the road anyway.

I filter once in a rare while, even though it is not legal here, but only if traffic is at a standstill and it looks like it will be a long wait. I've saved over half an hour of waiting with just a couple minutes of splitting at slow speeds. I keep the speed down to about 20-30km/h. I wouldn't do it if traffic was moving though, since people are liable to change lanes at any time without warning. If it's gridlock though, they can't really do that too quickly.

I did that two months ago and a minivan to my left suddenly pulled to his right to make the same turn just as I was beside him.
No warning.
I swerved to my right (into the red zone of the curb) and went down..........I'm never doing that again.

Luckily I had made it past all the parked cars before he pulled out, or I'd have been a sandwich.

I lane-split whenever I'm in California and the conditions are right (which they usually are on most Southern CA freeways).

Yup. Anyone who wants to open a car door into someone is a jerk whether they do it or not. :P The bike isn't hurting you or causing you to be further back in traffic - why bother it? Sheesh.

I think it should be legal with good regulations. It saves everyone traffic and headache.

Also filtering to the front in stopped traffic or at red lights as well. I hate sitting at lights in traffic. I'm paranoid some "O Ring" clown not paying attention 2 cars back is gonna rearend someone and start a chain reaction. I'd rather filter to the front and be able to get out of the way easier just in case. Plus it eases traffic congestion by making for more room for cages.
+1. I would just like to be able to legally get out of the way in dangerous traffic situations. I think it's the kids bombing down the freeway at excessive speeds between traffic that give lane splitting a bad name.

Also here in Ca. where it's legal. I am a pretty new rider still and only feel comfortable doing it at a stop light, making my way to the front of the line. Cagers in San Francisco seem pretty used to and tolerant of it, no "Donut Holes" opening doors or moving their car to try to block you. I did do it once on the freeway when it was a stop and go crawl...basically when I feel comfortable and think it's appropriate I'll do it.
I always cringe when I see riders flying down the freeway weaving between lanes/lane splitting...it's sooo dangerous.

It's legal where I live (Manila) and completely expected of motorcycles. I lane split when traffic is going fairly slowly (0 to about 30kph), and i try not to go significantly faster than traffic around me (5 to 10 kph faster maybe). Above 30kph or so, the added risks outweigh the advantages of filtering, so i just stick to my lane.

Lane splitting isn't legal here. Even if it was the expansion joints on most of the hi-ways here between lanes would make it fairly dangerous.

I have ridden in the margin at very low speeds (15-20mph) on the hi-way when traffic was at a complete stop. Even tho the cars weren't going anywhere a couple of them did nudge out into the margin to try to cut me off.
I have no idea what that attitude is about.
