Just don't run it in redline and you'll be good. That bike performs best when you keep it in the proper gear so it is in its proper power range, it's pretty nimble and the performance is great if kept in that range - which most times sounds like the engine is loud and hurting but don't worry, you will get used to that sound.

I had the suspension on my bike put on the softest setting when I got it (there were 5 settings, factory is at #3) and that caused it to sink more when I sat on it (110 lbs) so I could get my feet down better altho at just over 5'2, I still could not flatfoot it. After 5000 km when I was more used to the bike, I readjusted it to the #3 stiffer setting and what a fantastic difference, especially in the cornering. But I'm glad I ran it at first at the softened suspension just to get comfy with the bike and getting my feet down.

Duffy - shouldn't the idle be at around 1500 to 1800? I thought 1200-1500 first but I think Veda (was it Veda?) checked her manual and it suggested 1500-1800. The 3000 sounds high.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

You definitely want to get that idle down. Veda can chime in as she did the actual adjustment - but her bike is running much better now that it's at the right level. From the forums it seems like at first the bike has to be adjusted a few times, then no more.

It's pretty easy! Just a little knob to turn.

Agreed. The manual recommends 1300 RPM (+/- 100). I turned mine down from 3000 to 1500 (I was being cautious) and my gas mileage went from 50 mpg to 65 mpg! Also, I found I have more power at the low rpms in 1st/2nd gear.

Oh, and it sounds like a real motorcycle at idle now!

Unfortunately, our US 250s don't have an adjustable suspension like your fancy Canadian bikes :(

hehe, yeah, I know the idle is way too high, I'm sloooooowly bringing it down to normal range. If I do it too quickly it sounds like its going to stall. So everytime I take it out and it warms up and the rpms stays around the same I fiddle with the idle knob. Also, veda, yeah thanks...the noise I heard was coming from the gas valve. I'm still learning the bike and it has so many noises I panick sometimes. I'm like...WTF IS THAT :scared:

But so far I am loving the bike more and more. All the guys (who were at first nagging me to not get the 250 but at least get the ninja 500) think it's the perfect fit for me and that I made a wise choice  Damn straight I did!!!
