What about the C50 and honda 1100? Do they have hydraulic lifters or do you have to get them adjusted? also about how long should it take to do the job (for a shop)? I am mostly on the fence with the honda and the C50. I am leaning towards them but I am curious about the service cost and what needs to be done.

Greatly depends on the bike and what has to be done. If the valves have to be adjusted, the engine has to be completely cool, so you either gotta trailer it in, allow 2+ hours for cooling, or do what I did and drop it off the night before and pick it up the next day.

Depends on your shop's workload too. My shop has a week-long backlog right now.

The 1st service on my C90 was $72.00. The next service is not until 4000 miles.

I just called and made an appointment for the 600 mile service for my Ninja 250 and they said it would be around $350 :? I asked what does it cover and they said oil change and they take the top of the engine off and check all the valves and stuff............. ah huh ah huh :puzzled: ...whatever. Well, just to satisfy my warrenty I'll do it. But the next one better not cost so much. And it better be a few more miles inbetween.

Just out of curiousity, when are you suppose to change the oil anyway?? I change my car's oil between 5-7000 miles, what's it for a bike? My friend says he changes(changed) it every couple of years  (prolly why his bike won't run now)
Also, when should you oil your chain? And is there any other maintenance that you should be doing on a daily basis that you don't need the dealer to do?

 awww man, it's like reading stereo instructions. It's like an inch thick and got to read through alot of filler just to find the itty bitty section your looking for and then that's the part they decide to be real vague about.

this is where it helps to find a brand and/or model specific forum.

that way you can ask all your fellow ninja 250 owners what MoM says and they can tell you to use the search function because it's been asked a zillion times.

or so i've heard
