I think that would work here as well, but I am not aware of any private roads here other than rural dirt roads.

I know it doesn't make any sense, that is why it is so frustrating! I knew Ontario had a permit, but now it looks like PEI does also.

look for any gated communities. 10 times out of 10 those are private roads.

It allows you to ride within 30kms of your home and ONLY during daylight hours with no passengers. It's valid for 30 days and you must take your driving test within that time frame.

As far as I know, there is no official MSF here, but if you contact the HOG(Harley Owners Group) here, they will usually arrange riding lessons free of charge, even if you don't own a Harley.
Are we the only province that does this? It is nuts!
It is nuts.

I went thru hell learning to ride.

Gated communities don't really exist in Canada... I don't know of any. From trips to the states, they seem popular - but non-exsistent up here. If someone knows of one in Canada, let me know.

RC Fan - that really sucks, the province is essentially encouraging riders to drive without licences... it's crazy when you think of it. Which means those people don't even have valid insurance... ahh... hate to think of those implications!!

Ever think of moving?

Good luck with the test!

I will not be driving without insurance--I can get around that part. I just would rather not drive without a valid licence, but it seems that is the way to fly!

Dirt bike.

Someone you know must have one. A few hours in a sand pit tooling around and you'll be clutching and shifting like a pro. No license required.

You'll also be sore and filthy from getting thrown the "fudge" off

Have your friend ride his bike to a shopping mall parking lot when they are closed. The parking lot is private property. You can practice riding there.

Is NB that bad?

Yeah the motorcycle licensing laws are kind of silly around NB.

I purchased mine a few weeks ago brand new.

Can't get insurance because I didn't have a license.
Can't get a license on an uninsured bike.
You can't practice on public roads. You can't get a friend to drive your uninsured bike to a private parking lot even.

The dealer even had to go through some kind of loophole just so they could get an unstickered plate and invalid registration just to deliver the damn thing to my house.

It's kind of rediculous really. There's no permits to ride, before you can take the road test you have to re-write the standard automobile/signs test, and a 10 question sheet on motorcycles. Then you can take the road test anytime afterwards. No permits no nothing.

Did you do your road test on your bike, or someone else's bike? The bike I last attempted the test on was a '85 Yamaha Maxim 700. I assume a sportbike will be more difficult to do the test on?
