I prefer to ride in the back, when I'm riding with folks I"m not familiar with. Then I don't have to be concerned with holding anyone back.

Riding with hubby, I usually lead but not always.

If I'm not in the mood to be 'in charge' or am just not up to thinking hard (you've got to consider traffic actions with two bikes... enough room for both of us, will the light change between us, etc., etc.) then I'll ask him to lead.

But on his fully faired bike, 90 mph feels like 60 and following him on the highway, I feel like a flag in a gale. I'll just keep dropping back and dropping back until he figures it out.

I have found a real benefit to riding behind the mob. I have been able to see how many different ways there are to badly negotiate corners, dangerously lane split, and stupidly abuse car drivers for going the speed limit.
On the other hand, I have seen some very good riders, and have chosen to learn from them moreso.
What does frustrate me though is the amount of riders on 1300cc beasts who seem puzzled by the fact that my 250cc doesn't go quite as quick. These same riders who have been riding since they were feotuses appear to have also forgotten about how long it took for them to become experienced riders, rolling there eyes when the slower riders don't feel comfortable taking a corner at 85kp/h!
But all in all, I have been able to learn a lot from riding behind the mob; both what TO do and what NOT to do.

Well, I like to be upfront if we are just out riding. I always find the better roads, and remember directions better than hubby does. But if we know where we are going, I would rather have hubby in front. I feel safer being able to follow his lead, plus I am very protective, and want to be able to watch after him.

To the Q above, yes... I had a pretty good laugh over your thread title.

Anyways... It depends. (yes really! and I AM referring to riding.)

Back if there is a new rider or group with me as I can be somewhat paranoid about someone running into me until I know how they ride. Back if I don't want to think too much about where to go as it's simpler to follow. I like to switch if I notice the front rider spending way too much time looking in his mirror at me.

Front when I'm asked to or know where we are going, how to get there stuff. I do feel safer with someone watching my back too. I find front leading gets a bit tricky though if there are more than 3 riders, particularly in the city where you can lose riders at stoplights.

I like the middle in a group thing (mind outta gutters here) but only if I trust the riders in front of and behind me.

We also ride with me to the front and he following. It lets him pay attention to the road instead of making sure I'm there. I honestly don't have a habit of falling off but he worries.

Aaaaw, you spoil sport

Anyways, If theres a newer rider, they're always infront, but apart from that anywhere is just fine
