Nice to see you have a great bike for your wife...and if you keep it in good shape you'll never have a problem selling it to another newbie. Very popular and very reliable bike. If engine oil is too heavy it can cause this problem

As for your neutral problem, my brother in law had one once and we found if the engine oil is too heavy you can have this problem. Also if the clutch is not adjusted correctly?? should have approx. 1/8" gap between lever and holder before pulling on cable..adjustment can be made by releasing lock and turning knurled adjuster in or out as required.
