The key problem can be solved; the title problem could be more serious. I would make sure that's resolvable.
We once had a '52 mercury that would start with a '60 studebaker key. The stude key was half the size of the merc key. it defied reason, but it in fact worked.
You might look for an owners manual. Sometimes the key code is written inside.
Good luck,
p.

thank you.
Yea, I've already checked on the title problem, and it shouldnt be one. The key thing though, I hope that's not going to be a huge hassle. I know it can be solved I'm just trying to avoid a hassle.
Although through the past day I'v thought of something else I need to ask but thats another thread.

Forgive us for being suspicious, but there are a lot of unscrupulous sellers in the world, ones that will steal a bike and sell it for cheap. If you do buy a stolen bike and try to register it you will be denied, the police will knock on your door, the bike will be confiscated and go back to the last registered owner and you'll be out of pocket. Bikes with no title and no keys raise big red flags. People on this and other beginner forums try to be helpful to new riders, so please don't think we're out to get you. I'd rather tell someone of a possible problem than for them to find out on their own at a later date. We're only trying to be helpful and fun.
However if you personally know the seller then it'll all work out. Getting a title might cost some money.
If you tell us the make and model of the bike maybe we can help you with fixing it up. Used bikes, even if they are free (or close to it), can require lots of money to fix up. You may need new tires ($200), chain ($100), battery ($100), fork seals ($200) and other expenses, depending on the condition of the bike and how much you can wrench yourself. Rubber parts can degrade and need replacement. Then again, maybe you need very little. Maybe you can post a photo?

I thank you for your concern.
I am absolutely sure it is not stolen though. But thank you. I guess without hearing the actuall tone one is using when saying these things it could easily be misunderstood as an attack.
As to your other statement. The bike has been neglected for a while but kept out of the rain. I'm positive it needs some of those things as for the others I have no idea.
I dont have the bike yet. I am going to pick it up after work. I'll post a picture after that. It may be today or tomorrow.
As to the model and year I'm not sure. A guy I work with said there should be a plate with the vin make model and year loacated somewhere near the front tire. I'll check that out when I pick it up and post the information with the pic.
I expect to put alot of work into this bike, I dont expect to ride it until spring but it sure would be nice to get it running this fall. It's not that it looks like its in bad condition, its just that I want to get it running smoothly and looking like new.
Anyways thanks again.

I would imagine that somebody who goes to all the trouble of stealing a bike would ask for more than $85.
