Well I think anyone who rides would do that in areas like city or busy places were quick shifting is necessary (I do

). But for anything else after that, especially cruising at speed, pulling your foot back is a good thing. You don't want it angled under the gear shift lever on a real nice left hander

Not to mention, when you are navigating some twisty road, your foot on top of the peg with the weight on the ball of your foot allows you to have better control and position.
I totally understand how its comfortable to leave your foot under the lever, I do and its nice. But I've had a few moments where I did have my foot positioned like that and took some real tight lefts that scared me wondering if I was going to feel the toe of my boot grind. That got me to position it back real quick!

Good call on the footing position. From now on i'll stay level with the peg and keep out from under the shifter.
Rubber soles of boots could grind off real fast grinding along pavement!

I put the middle of both my feet on the back pegs.

I typically have the middle of my foot on the peg but its angled slightly outward so the inside of my left foot and inside of my right foot barely touch the outside of the shifter and brake. Its most comfortable in this position but my foot is also a size 12. my dad wears a size 9 and also does this...
also depends on if you have footboards or pegs... on my dads c50t his has footboards so i rest flat and its typically under the shifter and brake until needed.
now on my m50 i don't have highway pegs yet, so i sometime use my peg to rest my lower calf on while cruising at speed, this also causes your body to rotate forward letting you sit in a different position to regain feeling in your buttox lol... and i also have found myself on long cruises pulling down the rear pegs and putting my feet up there and practically laying on the gas tank, doing this isn't exactly safe, if you had to react quickly u'd pretty much be dead by the time u could relocate to the lower controls lol.
