Going early in the morning also helps to avoid the heat, which will be an issue while you're going slow in a parking lot.
I just rode around my neighborhood for a hundred or two miles, then started taking the highway for short distances.
Also note any gas stations on or near any route you take, and don't forget to use them once in a while.

Set your alarm for EARLY on a Sunday morning. Get up, have breakfast, and go!

doing those exercise at nothing more than 20 mph is much more difficult that finding some nice deserted roads and winding through the gears. my newbie tip, pick smooth roads. I took my first ride over bumpy country roads and I felt like the bike was trying to get out from underneath me. hitting a nice 35-40 mph in a straight line is a lot of fun.

not a silly question at all.Diecast61 wrote:How do you get the bike to the parking lot to practice if you feel you are not ready to ride on the street?
May seem like a silly question .... but I don't have a parking lot all that close to me.
THANKS!!!!
in fact i was in the same boat, even worse. i live in the middle of a large hill so it was daunting to ride up and down the block to get to a parking lot too.
have a friend who knows how to ride, take the bike for you. after sometime in the parking lot you will feel comfortable. hills are another story
