Unfortunately, there's been a lot of this type thing this summer in NYC:
http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.js ... t=1&stid=8

I remember an article about a month or two ago stating that the cops had already impounded close to 600 bikes. Crazy.

Although it's a little irritating that so many people ride illegally, leading to these crackdowns that are such a hassle for those of us who have all our papers in order.

There is an astronomical percentage of unlicensed riders in the city and so the NYPD is predisposed to be less than civil. There area articles with pictures of rows and rows of sportbikes at the tow pound floating around.

I'm pissed because so far I have a clean driving record and my insurance rates have lowered to a nice amount and I do not want that ruined by some idiot with a badge.

The last thing I want to do is give riders a bad name but it seems I do it no matter what.

Also, I bet you there are more improperly licensed car drivers or uninsured drivers in NY than illegal bikers.

You know what? Get over it already.
You didn't get a ticket. As stated before, in your area you're likely to get stopped because of the huge numbers of unlicensed riders. So your fellow riders share in the responsability of you getting stopped. The reason it took so long to officially pull you over is, most likely, because he was running your plate to see if it was a stolen bike....something else that apparently is a very high occurance in your area.

If you haven't done anything wrong (which you obviously didn't) it's just a minor inconvenience. If your bike was stolen and the cops recovered it by doing exactly what they did, you'd be very appreciative.

Just forget about it.
I'm not young enough to know everything.

In reality, they wanted to hassle you because of your oversized and aesthetically displeasing TMW signature.

If life is a "dog", was the cop your "dog"?

Or did you mean to say, "life's a "dog", and I "dog" a lot too".

Any time you get pulled over by the heat and you don't have to pay you have no reason to complain. Next time apologize instead of arguing with the guy and actually put in a little effort to make his day go easier. You'd be surprised how far it will get you.

I wasn't trying to make his day harder but if I stayed silent it would have probably ended with a ticket since being silent means I am guilty. Hell, I was in the most polite tone as possible.

No one read that I turned off the engine and took off my helmet right before he came out of the car huh? I did the things that are good but he still was angry with me from the get go.

The line from my sig is me trying a new approach in life but I can't stop trying to be a goody two shoes completely even if people still look at me as a criminal.

I did somewhat got over it but remember I want to help in making a positive image for motorcycling, showing people we are not all reckless hooligans but I guess being a bitter "O Ring" is a way to go huh.

I said "Don't argue", I didn't say "Don't talk to the guy and try to call a lawyer".

Do you have a video camera on your bike? Mite be worth checking into if your getting hassled that much in NYC.

Is it legal to make a right on red in NYC?

These guys were playing the good cop bad cop routine.

I had a funny experience with 2 cops while riding my bike a couple weeks ago. Not worth going into details, but they played the same routine on me.

After I'm done arguing with them - as I'm walking away the "bad cop" is still trying to get the last word in. It was hilarious. I wish I had video tape of that scene. You would pisss your pants.

make a phone call to the police department and report him.
I understand how you might not have gotten his name or badge number, but I know you got his patrol car number. If you didnt you should have. Call the department and complain about his UNPROFESSIONAL attitude. and his ABUSIVE language twords you. Mention how he was ABUSING THE COLOR OF AUTHORITY. Make sure to mention his partner being professional and curtious.
Even if you didnt get his car number, CALL AND REPORT HIM ANYWAY. Your license was ran, so they have computer records of who it was.

You dont have to take a cops crap just because hes a cop, people. And the only way to stop them is to stop them. A cop who acts like that is a BAD cop and shouldnt be a cop at all.

I dont give a damn what the name on the bike is..........Just ride it.

Are you serious? I'm not sure what the police are like where you live, but in NYC unless the cops actually SHOT you -- and, empirically, not even then most of the time -- there's not a damn thing the department is going to do about it. Except have a good laugh.

Once I brought some NBC news guys undercover to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal to document the practice (in the '90's) of cops pouring hot bleach onto sleeping homeless people for sh!ts and giggles. Once the story came out and for the next couple of weeks, I'd have 2 or 3 tickets a day slapped on my car for all kinds of nonsense that would take me weeks to clear up. Total harassment. It's a game you can't win, so count yourself lucky to get away with nothing but the taste of bile in your throat.
