V-star 650/Honda 750?
The shadow 750 is an all around great bike, seat height is quite low on the spirit, I am not sure about the other models though. It handles great at all speeds and is very smooth throughout the powerband.
They are incredibly good looking bikes and the sound is great too.
Aftermarket pipe choices are plentifull as are all the other add ons!
This is a great all around bike. ask anyone who has rode one. It is probably one of the best deals out there! They are inexpensive and reliable!
Good luck and keep us posted!

if you havent purchased your bike already
go google " 650 C, C, D" and you should come to the greatest V Star website on the net
Great guys to tell you what they've done to the V Star and how to make it come alive.
Tons of people swear that they get so much out of hthier 650 engines after mods and for those who dont mod thier bikes, they say that though it isnt the fastest thing in the world, it keeps up w/ the big boys

I haven't updated this post for a while. Since then my friend's brother sold me a 99 v-star 650. It was a great price for a beginner bike and in very nice condition. That plus the fact that I know the seller personally made my decision easy.
Just rode in to work today. A tad chilly, but very fun. I've already decided I'm going to remove the AIS, seems to be the most popular mod. After that, we'll see. I'm still getting used to the bike.

Congrats on the V Star 650. In my opinion it's a good choice. I just love my 07 V Star 650 Custom. (I'm a new rider also and this is my first bike) I took it on the highway 2 days ago and didn't have any problems. It's not a bullet (as was posted earlier) but I kept up with traffic just fine.

My brother picked up a 2005 V-Star 650 this past June......I bought a 1992 (mint) 750 Honda Nighthawk.....
Both are decent bikes with plenty of power for our needs.......now, If we were to drive thru multi-states, then I'd have to get myself a C50T Suzuki....but, for weekend putting around my 750 does just fine indeed!!!
Besides, mine only cost $1,600.00.

Suzuki
I bought a Suzuki C50 (VL800) as my first bike and it's great. I've taken it on a long trip and it handles well on the highway as well as around town. Features like shaft-drive, liquid cooling system and fuel injection make it a really solid bike and it looks cool too. You might want to take a look around at the Suzuki dealership while you're out shopping.

Are you kidding? Your Nighthawk would be more suitable for a coast to coast ride than a C-50. More power, much less engine vibration at highway speed. Also the combo of a standard riding position and a big flat seat means you can more easily adjust your position when your body parts start getting numb.baltimorebayside wrote:....now, If we were to drive thru multi-states, then I'd have to get myself a C50T Suzuki....but, for weekend putting around my 750 does just fine indeed!!!
I've ridden the C-50 on long highway rides. It's a good bike, but not nearly as comfortable for a long haul as the Nighthawk.

Well as a fellow recent V-star owner ('01 Classic, new to me) my reading indicated that mod was primarily popular as something that stops backfiring after modifying the exhaust and air intake to improve performance.acritzer wrote:II've already decided I'm going to remove the AIS, seems to be the most popular mod.
I plan on doing the AIS removal, but only because I'm planning to do either the Gonzo Air Kit (GAK) or Hypercharger mod for the intake, and the No-Cut-Gut for the exhaust. If the guys at the 650ccnd.com forums are to believed (and there's no reason not to believe them) then those mods should give a 10-20% increase in power.
