I commute every day the weather is nice to a 7-12 campus. I have had no problems with any of the students bothering the bike. I would think a lot depends on the school. I teach at a "good" campus in a town that makes Mayberry look kind of seedy and dangerous. That, combined with being (for reasons that still escape me) well liked by most students, makes me feel comfortable leaving it where I cant see it.

On days I ride, though, I try to leave abou 15 minutes early. This lets me beat the big morning rush of sleepy or hungover 16 year olds all heading to one place.

We have lots of bikes on campus. Another teacher rides a Road King, which he parks right next to my V-Star 650. He says my bike looks like his bikes pet. As far as I know his bike has never been jacked with, either. Parents also bring kids on bikes, and there are at least three bikes in the student parking lot (all crazy fast sprortbikes).

How well do you know the custodians? I work in the school system and park in the boiler room.

I have to move between two schools. I know the custodians in the morning school pretty well, but I don't know the custodians at all in the afternoon school (which is the more worrisome one).

Actually, the things stopping me right now are the amount of time it takes to get ready and figuring out a way to carry everything I need. I need to force myself to get up a bit earlier because right now I'm just barely able to grab something to eat and jump in the car. With the bike, I need time to put in earplugs(which I've found out take much longer than I had thought), get dressed, push the bike out...

I also need a larger bag to hold my lunch, shoes, and other things.

I guess I'm also worried that one of my principals might not like motorcycles because of the line in the handbook telling parents not to bring their children to school on a motorcycle, but I'll probably find out if there is an issue whenever I get around to commuting.
