Don't lube your brakes, ever!

I recommend CRC Disc Brake Quiet. You can buy a can at your local auto parts store. Unless you go into the brake repair business, this one container should last you a lifetime.

As long as the pad and disc are in good condition it will work great, and, since it is applied to the back of the pad and doesn't run, you won't lose any friction!
Let me get this straight... it's one down and four up, right?

your pads could be glazed. but 1 or more of your pistons could be sticking. make sure they are free from dirt, etc.

I was under the impression that all front brakes squeaked when applied. When my bike was first new I was so impressed that the brakes didn't squeak. My instructor and another friend kept saying...just wait....
Well, they squeak now.

I have been riding iin the rain a lot and I notice a few specks of what appears to be rust along the edge of the disc. Is this something to be concerned about? If so, what do you recommend for cleaning it off?

sandpaper. tho i wouldnt think getting anything more coarse than 800 would be a good idea. and i would recommend sanding in the direction of the movement of the rotor, if that makes sense...

As far as squaking brake pads, to deglaze, i just rode around for a bit with my brakes slightly applied. so that way it burns in to the rotor and not something like concrete or anything else. as far as squeak reducing compound you buy in automotive stores, ive heard bad things about them, but if someone has good experience with a certain brand, like poppygene, then badass. hope that helps, good luck.
