I have progressive. I'm 29, married. Riding a 99 Yamaha V-star 650...and it's a only $78 for the year. That covers the bike as well (not that it's worth a huge amount).
insurance question...

I plan on buying a good used kawasaki 250 ninja off ebay. My goal is to find one for $1800 or less. I went online to progressive insurance and got an annual rate for liability insurance only.
My rate varied from $135 per year with a 2007 model. Older models were as low as $82.00 a year to $92.00 per year. BTW, I'm 51 years old. Younger riders will probably pay much more. If I had any other vehicles insured by progressive, it would be less than the figures I quoted.
The insurance company that insures my car doesn't insure any kind of Sportsbike. I should add that I have "No motorcycle riding Experience" Nor have I taken the msf course yet. I don't know if progressive gives a discount for completing the msf course. Some insurance companies do. And some don't, at least that's what I've heard. So take that with a grain of salt.
I'm sure if I had any motorcycle riding experience. My quotes would be lower. Then again, maybe not. I just don't know.

The best way to find out is to actually call (or maybe use the websites) of the insurance companies that you're interested in. Everyone's quote will be different depending on the company, the person's history, age, whether you have other vehicles under the insurance, etc. Try calling several different insurance companies and pick the one that you like that gives you the lowest quote.

i plan on getting a Kawasaki ninja 250, which my parents approved!! yay.
btw. i still didn't get my motorcycle permit but was wondering do i need motorcycle safety course to get a motorcycle permit?
I have a California licensed card
check out geico. Age and coverage's make a difference but as a 24 year old male with no experience(on road is what they ask for) and no endorsement my quote was $146 a year on a 2005 ninja 500. Of course I can save $7 a year if I shell out the $250 to take the BRC.
Being that your under 21 you have to take the course. Most if not all are on private property and don't require a permit

Over here, its about $250 without full coverage. I'm 16, and taking the BRC didn't save me 1 penny on progressive insurance.

I would definitely shop around. Progressive wanted to charge me twice as much as Geico
