You should be fine with that as your second bike. My roommate learned to ride on a VF700F Interceptor, which has just a tad less hp than the 750. It has a very smooth powerband, and it is a very well behaved motor.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to go check the bike out this weekend, but due to my insane pickiness, I might end up just waiting for that special standard bike to pop into my life.

Most wanted: Zephyr 750
Good luck finding a nice Zephyr. I was looking for one in the mid 90s (after Kaw quit selling 'em here) and they were rare as hen's teeth. You might also keep your eye out for the son-of-Zephyr, the ZR-7. It has a more modern look and much better suspension, but at its heart, it still has the old 8-valve, 738cc inline-4 that made the KZ750 famous. The riding position is very much a standard.

Lastly, you could do what I did and keep your eye out for a Honda Nighthawk 750. It was the bike that beat out the Zephyr in the retro 750 wars of the 90s. They sold 'em in the states from '91 to '03, so it's still possible to find one in excellent condition.

Thanks I'll need it.

Yeah I've been looking at the ZR 7, and it seemed to somehow relate to the Zephyr. It's not a bad bike, but it's similar to the 919 in that it's just a tad too sporty for me. Is the ZR 7's foot position more standard then the 919? I found the 919's foot pegs to be a little too far back.

As for the Nighthawk, funny for you to say that, I've also been keeping an eye on them. Unfortunately I've only been able to find '82 and '83s. They are slightly more 'bubbly' though, which is why I still prefer the kawas. Still a nice bike.

I know, I'm picky.

Well scratch the Magna, I went to have a look at it, and it was sold. The guys just didn't update their buysell ad. The ZRX was tempting, although too big for me at the moment.

And it's back to the hunt with me.

Have you considered a Bandit?

To be honest, I have. They are just a tad too waspy for my tastes.

I think I need to make a new thread for standards. The Magna is sold now, so I won't be getting it.

Somehow missed this question last week. The ZR7's pegs aren't positioned as far back as the 919. They're just a couple of inches back from where they'd be on a Zephyr. Between that and the standard bar ( a lot of folks modify to clip-ons), it's a very straight up riding position. See below :

Thanks Fly, that looks much better then what I originally thought. The ZR7 is officially my plan "B". But not the ZR7S; I like my bikes naked. 8)
