I'm 6'2" and just about 300 lbs and it rode me and a 180 lb friend with no problem, acceleration barely even noticed the difference as compared with just me. Only complaints were that it wasn't FI, there's a little plastic hump in the seat that hurts on longer rides, and the pegs weren't higher... The '07's and '08's are fuel injected; the stock seat is trash, get the OEM gel seat or a Mustang. I LOVE my Boulevard C50. Love it. And it is my first real bike too - not too big, but took some getting used to.
The boulevard S50 has more power then the C or the M and weighs less, but things happen alot faster on it Guess it's up to how much risk you want to take just starting out.
Ok I know im kinda new here, My first bike was a 2001 Honda Shadow Ace 750 and I can not say enough good things about the bike. It was easy to manuver in slow speeds, but still had great power on the highways. I would recommend this bike in a heart beat, and I am so glad I didn't go for a smaller bike.
PS now my friend has the 750 and is learning on it, and is very happy with it.
Shadow 750 is great, starter or novice. Wouldn't recommend a gel seat, took mine to Rolling thunder Customs and they restitched it with a foam substance and riding a tank (140 miles) is all good now!
