Question on video “Howzit Done? Stoppies” gear.

Is that the same gear you would wear when riding around town and on the interstate?

I ask because it looks like hot weather gear. I live in Charleston SC and the heat and humidity can be a "dog" in the summer.

I didn't see the video (they're blocked at work), but ATGATT = ALL the gear. That means helmet (full face is most protection), jacket, gloves, pants, and boots. You can use abrasion-resistant mesh gear with armor to cut down the heat. Anything less than that is an avoidable risk. You pays your money and takes your choice- if you consciously choose more risk over less risk, that's your business.

That is my "hot" gear. I will often run a mesh jacket over the Impact rig. BUT if it's blistering I don't. The mesh over the top isn't bad around here. IF I were in high humidity and wearing it more I would probably upgrade to something with a kidney belt to keep it on better. 661 makes a couple of rigs I'd be curious to try.

If you look at the vid you might see a pretty good scuff on the right shoulder where I lowsided Mrs. Crash's DR200 whilst testing it's 'full lean' potential. No blood no foul. Tucked the front at about 25 hard over...

Thanks for the reply.

I was curious because it looks like your wearing basic clothing with armor attached to the outside.
I’m new to all this. I plan to get the proper jacket, helmet, paints, and gloves. I just want the best protection possible but wile riding in 98-degree tempters with a 60% or more humidity. :heat:

I watch a couple of your videos last night. I'm going to go back tonight and go through the rest of them.

The Thor Impact and Impact SE as well as the 661 Pressure Suit are micromesh kind of things with hard armor attached. I, personally, find it a nice way to go in the summer. Most major gear manufacturers make MESH jackets with CE armor in them. I like the Thor and others because the spine protection is better than just a mesh.

Your vids are hilarious and entertaining. Are you a MSF instructor? You should be. I think your humor would help to calm the nervousness in those newbies it the BRC.
Okay. You're not an MSF instructor, Cap't. Why don't you tell the nice folks what you do teach?

OK, (sigh) I teach Broadcasting at the local High School. We're SkillsUSA State Champs three years running.

OH and I'm an Idaho STAR instructor. (We use the TeamOregon cirriculum not the MSF.) Any crazzzzzzzzzzzzzy ideas are my own though.

Concur with all the gear all the time. I live in south Texas and it can get pretty nasty here too. My armoured jacket is a dayglo limegreen/yellow and it reflects a lot of the light/heat. My feet get hot because I wear black leather boots. Basic physics can help you with staying cool when riding through the urban swamp.

I just tried on a Joe Rocket “UFO” white and gray jacket at a local bike shop. The large fit great. The kid (sales rep) presented me with several different jackets to try on. And the UFO fit great. I also tried on a Shark helmet. I was very pleased with this shop. No one tried to pressure me into a sale. I’ll probably go back to get my gear at this particular bike shop.
