If it's soft, it will rip apart, should you go down. Good thick leather will help before the road gets to your skin.

I found some kids Fox riding pants on sale for $40 at the local dealership.( Finally being short works in my favor) Anyone know how off road pants stack up on road? They felt just as durable as most of the expensive non leather riding pants.

Some folks will buy "fashion" leather and wear it for riding. What they don't realize is that those fashion leathers are put together with nylon monofilament (fishing line).
Even if the leather is thick, the jacket is likely to come apart at the seams if stressed. That nylon thread isn't made to take any force.

Go the extra mile and get a leather jacket with armor padding, maybe CE approved, then it is almost a guarantee that the jacket will hold up in a slide.
