All well and good Cap'n, provided that there is a dry road in sight. Here in Canada, we get nice dumps of snow eliminating any trace of asphalt. So, we can ride in the fall, we can ride in the spring, but winter? If we can ride in the winter here, say goodbye to those wonderful crops that feed us...

Yes, we get horrible dumps of snow, it keeps us off the streets for at least a day... Then, like magic, it's almost always gone in the morning...

Global Warming has its benefits? :)

Realistically, I plan on riding through the winter with the exception of when there is active precipitation or existing ice on the ground.

Even so, I suspect there will be times that I will be off the road for a few weeks at a time. I let my bike sit for 10 days and it had trouble starting so I'm wondering what I'll have to do about that.

But at least I've got a center stand to put it up on even if it doesn't lift the bike off both tires.

You know, I just read a graphic novel, Roswell, Texas, that you might like. :) I like it quite a lot too, and I don't live in Texas.

I do know of people who live in Canada who put sidecars on in the winter so they can still ride. I have also seen training wheels...(although can still be 4 wheel slide). I tend to ride all seasons, don't get flat spots.
I follow a new highway I haven't traveled before.

I'm not so sure I'd be willing to ride or the bike would want to ride when it's -30ºC! That's what snowmobiles are for!!

I just inflate the tires 2 -4 PSI over and if any flat spots do evolve I just ride them out which takes a few miles with lots of leaning.

Another thing to do is get some better tires that are less prone to cupping. My Qualifiers never gave me that issue and it has sat for 4 months. My D404s on the other hand...
