Am I missing something here? You need to have it insured in Alberta before you can get it registered.
Every vehicle that I have owned, I have had to have registration (pink slip in my name) for it before I could insure it, and in order to insure it, I had to have registration (all my insurance papers have my license plate number on it, which can only be gotten by registering first) I had to initiate the insurance paperwork before I paid for my registration, then when I got my registration they put the registration (plate number) into the insurance paperwork. I have only gone through the AMA for this, so other agencies may do things differently.

I've only ever dealt with cooperators and I walk in with the serial number and walk out with insurance. The registries then requires proof of insurance before you can get yer plate. Sounds like the AMA causes you to make an extra trip....

not much of a trip at my local office; about 5 feet between the registration and insurance desks.

hmmm, things are different here. every car i get i have to insure it before going to dmv to get everything signed over to me.
