I would have picked it up and left a note. I think too many people are afraid to do the right thing.

...That person could decide to accuse you anyway and next thing you know your taking 2 or 3 days off of work to go to court for something you never did. Trying to PROVE you didn't do it and how many people in the crowd do you think are going to step forward and say you DIDN'T do anything...

They have to prove you DID something before it would get anywhere near a courtroom. No judge would waste the time.

I would have picked it up, check it out for any serious damage and left a note saying how I found it and what I noticed. There are a surprising number of people that don't know if their bike is in good shape or not.

I also make a habit of checking out bikes on asphalt in the summer. All too often I see them sinking into the ground so I slide a can or some nearby scrap under the sidestand and leave a note there as well.

Furthermore, if I see something absolutely alarming (flat tire, dead chain, dangerous configuration) I leave a note telling them about it in case they haven't/don't notice.

I always leave my card if they have questions. I've never been sued, accused, yelled at or anything negative. If anyone tries they'd have to prove that I did it and move far from my wrath.

I don't know if that's entirely true.

My fiance` was in a hit and run and she called the cops. The guy that hit her has no damage to his vehicle but still got issued 3 summons to court. Just because she said it was him. I guess the cops must believe her but I seriously doubt they phoned a judge on Friday at 6:00 PM to ask if they can issue a summons.

Again I could be wrong as well, but I don't think anyone here is a lawyer so I could be wrong as well. I hate to say it because I'd like to act the other way but I just don't believe it's worth the risk.

its only a scooter, they dont qualify in bike world.

I would have taken the opportunity to use it as a toilet before leaving it right where it was laying.

Its not, fear, its just how I would wish my motorcycle to be when I got back to it, if it was knocked over.

Means I can take some quick photos of it in situ on my phone if it needs them for insurance purposes, and also I then know I need to check the bike over before riding

I don’t think there is anything wrong with scooters. Never the less I just had the best laugh so far today.

As for the tipped over bike issue… Even though I’m a nice guy and will help out when needed you just don’t know what type of person the owner of the bike is. And I don’t need the aggravation of someone thinking I was responsible or at least upset that I even touch it after the fact.



P.S. My friend just made a good comment.

What if the kick stand is faulty? You pick up the bike and it falls over again? Now you got people looking at you and you’re to blame.

In a perfect world you could pick up that bike to be helpful. However, this is not a perfect world, so some OMG thug (or OMG wannabe thug) may come out and see you handling his damaged bike, assume you're responsible for the damage, and send you to the hospital or the morgue.

I *look* guilty at the slightest provcation so I wouldn't touch it unless it were a 'safety issue'

I would inform the Security desk at the venue and make sure they enter it into the Security log.

heh...big huge biker dude......on a scooter....Id be chuckling a bit until I got punched....

Im going to +1 the tell security unless its leaking stuff everywhere. as was mentioned, what if the kickstand was botched and it falls over again. or they dont realize theres damage untill theyre riding home and the handle bars fall off.
