I'll be turning eighteen in a few months and was thinking about purchasing a motorcycle. That's not in anyway a problem but, you see, the bike I'm looking at is the Suzuki Hayabusa.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

No matter what I read I keep coming back to this 1300cc monster, quite possibly the worst starter bike choice in the history of man. I'll look at Kawasaki Ninja 250's, Honda rebels and the like and for five or so minutes and think: "I need to start off small and work my way up." Then my Id kicks in and for several weeks I'll be all Busa, Busa, Busa. I've been in this morbidly humorous cycle for several weeks now and I need someone to get me off the Busa.

If i start on the Busa I know I'm going to blow my mind, wallet and pelvis on this thing.

But I don't think I really care.

God help me.

A Hayabusa is such a wrong choice for a beginner. Give yourself some time to learn and gain experience first. There will always be a Hayabusa to buy somewhere down the road. Probably the bike that belonged to another inexperienced rider before he killed himself.

Your statement about not really caring shows you immaturity and lack of sense. Grow up a bit first and gain some common sense before you get a bike. Any bike.

I've read the majority of them.

I understand the risks, but I'm disregarding them for some reason! I guess I must be an impudent brat after all, I seek advice from people with infinitely more knowledge on the subject than I posses, then disregard the entirety of it.

I'll take a hiatus for a few months and try to get some wits about me. Otherwise I'm probably going to realize I've made a mistake by driving really hard, really fast and then bursting into flames.

Heh, I've ridden lots of things, from a Rebel 250 clear up to a Busa. Quite honestly, the Busa had lots of power, yeah, but the most fun I had was learning to lean on my Suzuki Volusia. Too many people go out and buy a supersport, then learn to twist the wrist, but never to lean. The leaning is the most fun part of it! And yeah, I knew how to lean that thing, I'd often leave friends on supersports in the dust going through the corners! (I also tended to leave lots of trails of sparks, which is why I'm looking for a more sporty bike)
Honestly, unless you have years of experience under your belt, I'd say a Busa is too much for anyone.

Power, it sounds like you're a typical teenager. I don't mean this in a bad way, especially since at least you REALIZE that it's a bad idea and would like to get it off your mind.

Now, my personal views are that no one riding regularly needs a hayabusa. Who needs that kind of power? Who WANTS to spend the entire day in first gear (which you can just about do on a busa)? However, if you really want it, look at all of the pictures of inexperienced sportbike riders (also known as organ donors) who weren't able to control the beast they were riding.

Yeah, it's gorgeous. Yeah, it's powerful. But even a 250 Ninja can get to 60 mph in about 5 seconds. And have you seen the 2008 EX250? Gorgeous.

You twist that hayabusa throttle the wrong way, you're liable to get yourself injured. Do that with a 250, you MIGHT get the sewing machine engine to lift the front wheel up SLIGHTLY.

Lower cc's are more forgiving, and it is the view of most on this forum that starting small is the best way to go. Even a GS500 or EX500 are good starter bikes.

Also, if you live in a rural(ish) area, why a hayabusa? Those things are wonderful on straight lines, but in the twisties, they're a bit harder to throw around. A 250 or 500, ridden by the right person, could overtake a literbike in the twisties.

There's a saying: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than it is to ride a fast bike slow.

Are you independently wealthy? One of the things that keeps most 18 yr. old first timers from buying a busa (when common sense doesn't intervene) is insurance. The annual premium would be approximately the same as the cost of the bike, as they assume a total loss is close to a 100% bet.

Wowsa, go for it dood !!!! dont worry about all the oldies that get on here and say dodo like, nah nah boy its to much bike for you, etc etc their just jealous !!!!

Go out there, grab that gsxr 1300, and go wild, in fact if i was you id be looking hard at the zx14r as well, i know i know kawaka crapola but even so in its virginal form the 14r will go just as hard as the busa, if cash isnt a problem of course.

If you need any tips on how to ring the ti.ts off it, and squeeze as much out of it please PM me

oh and also, I know some doods that do some really sweet power mods on these types of bike, turbos, nos, super charging, chipping etc etc so if you think your down on grunt on one of these beauties sing out and ill get ya hooked up with em

Thanks man, I haven't laughed like that for a while. Your sarcasm is... well my vocabulary fails me.

But anyhooo... who puts a SUPERCHARGER on a hyper-sport motorcycle? I still have a grin on my face from that as well.

I have a friend who drives harleys and I asked him about a Busa as a first bike; he said: "Sure, as long as you give it to me for free when you're done with it. Cause I'm gonna laugh when you have to resell it with a salvaged title."
