They routinely flaunt their religion to get around our laws.

If he falls, he'll lhave more to worry about than his head. He has no gloves and no other protective gear.

In regards to the laws...a lot of people think that if you can't abide by the law, then you don't get to ride a motorcycle.

The only time I have ever been asked to remove my helmet was at the border crossing.

What a dumb rule where you are. Do you have some sort of motorcycle lobby group over there who could help with getting that law revoked?
Have to take your helmet off for security reasons, believe it or not, some criminals have used helmets and goggles as a disguise. And it's not the law. It's just the way things are done now, like having your shoes examined when you fly. :frusty:
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It's not even true security, either. It's just the illusion of security. The shoes at the airport, the helmets. It's all bull. Countries are treating their citizens like terrorists. It seems we're all suspects. Last time that happened in America was during the cold war, when apparently everyone was a communist.

I sure hope that things get turned around and that at least the American government gets its cruddy hands out of its citizens lives; because they don't belong there, and it's only going to get more big brother-ish if we don't stop it soon. And I refuse to live in a society like that.

People should not be afraid of their government; a government should be afraid of its people.

Uhh I would refuse to remove my helmet and pay. If they refuse to take my money I walk out and ride off because it was caught on tape they refused my money. But seriously I have never had to take my helmet off to pay for gas.

Like shane-o, I like living in a multicultural society too. I felt proud to be Canadian when the RCMP accepted Sikh members to wear their turbans, and a bit of ire from the conservative (knee jerk hick) press about any kind of perceived problems/favouritism.

I knew this would get a bit of a response....and we're not going to solve it, are we? How many rights should a particular religion gain, over the rest of the citizenry? Maybe it's a utility arguement; courts are weighing the costs and benefits to each group of people concerned (how much will this cost the socialised health care system?).

And the picture is an entirely different issue....no helmet, no gloves, suit, big fackin smile. Good for him. What a picture...you don't see that every day do you?

I've been arguing this subject on a Canadian Political forum against a bunch of cagers by the sound of it. Most are completely against this guys right to ride while maintaining his religious beliefs. Bunch of flippin' hypocrites to be honest, most of them are the first to complain whenever a law or motion is proposed that may infringe on one of their "rights" or beliefs, but are quick to jump all over any measure that would grant a minority, ie a non-white, non-christian any freedoms to practice their religion or beliefs.

In BC, Sikhs have been exempt from our helmet laws for awhile now, and I can count on one hand how many I have seen who ride without helmets. A grand total of two, both elderly gentlemen, one on a 125cc motorbike and the other on an electric scooter. Where as I know a fair number of younger Sikh riders, people in my age group and all of them are ATGATT to the max.

If a few Sikhs wish to ride wearing their turbans instead of a helmet, then more power to them, can't be anymore dangerous then those Harley riders who wear only a tiny plastic beanie cap.
Always ask why.

One of the reasons they wear a turban in the first place is because it is against their religion to cut their hair if they have been baptized. The purpose of the turban is to keep that hair both clean and under control. Imagine what fifty years of hair growth would look like and the size of the helmet it would take to fit over it.
Always ask why.

I love living in a multicultural society such as Melbourne Australia its awesome to have all these varying cultures in close contact.

But it makes no sense that I cant walk into a gas station to pay for my fuel with a helmet on (so you goto take ya gloves off then take your helmet off then repeat the process just to hand a guy 10 bucks) when a lady of a particular belief can walk into the same shop in a full berka which is essentially a balaclava on with no issues????? Its illegal for me to enter a shop in a helmet but legal for her to wear a balaclava.....same thing I would of thought.

anyhoo its all good
Holey moley....what was the reasoning behind not allowing someone to wear their helmet into pay for your gas?

yeah...cause apparently if i "stuck the joint up" the CCT wouldn't be able to see my face...im mean wtf ???? the fact that my bike's rego is in full view of the driveway CCT doesn't seem to make any difference

there is no commercial/government building in Australia that you can walk into with a helmet on...even the motorcycle posties have to de-helmet themselves, yet, a berka is perfectly ok.

What if my religion was called "the holy helmet wearers of helmet land" and I must wear a helmet in order to stay true to my helmet brothers ???? surely that would mean im exempt?

On a side note, I was at a gambling establishment the other day and was asked to turn my baseball cap backwards as the CCT pointing from the ceiling couldn't pick up my face, the other 2 options i was given was to take it off or leave...wtf is the world coming to
