I forget the era though. I think it was before sportbikes.
I would say that cafe racers were riding sportbikes...just not modern ones.
the term 'Cafe Racers' refers to some of the first adaptations of racing machines into streetbikes... or vice versa... it goes back the early 60's at least.

They look cool, if they were designed by the French, I am sure they will do great!
(for the record <ahem> moderators, I meant French in the nicest possible way).

My 2 cents:
Back in the 60's, many people took street bikes, stripped off a lot of pieces (side covers, airboxes, fenders), put a single seat on, straight pipes, screened velocity stacks. A small fairing around the headlight with a short windshield (bullet shaped).
So you had a street bike made to look like a race bike. You could ride to the Cafe, sit a drink a coffee, and watch people be amazed at the "racing" bike you rode there.
Most Cafe racers were "show", though some actually did some major upgrades and mods to the bikes. Some removed the alternator and starter to reduce weight. The Battery was given a good charge and they could ride till the battery went dead. Since the cafe was close by, it wasn't a big problem.
CB350 honda's were popular conversions (at least by me).
You might say they were the original ricers.

I've only ever seen the first bike, the other 2 are new to me. But I like them.
Only, what color is 'dunkelrot'..... in english?
That'd be the opposite of 'leichtrot'.
