The VTR and the VFR were around $100/year PL and PD. I'm bracing for what the new Duck will be but I suspect somewhere around $600/year for everything should cover it. Our insurance in Alberta must be related to the length of our riding season..... :?

The insurance (thru ICBC) on my 1300 is $1987 yr with the maximum discount.
That's just crazy! I have an airplane that carries full coverage. $1 million in liability and $55K replacement. My annual premium is $1000.

My bike just carries liability (too old for full coverage to be worth it). It's only $95/yr.

Good lord, this makes me really appreciate the competition on the US market now. I will (hopefully?) be paying insurance on my first bike sometime in the near future, and I can't afford anywhere near what all of our Canadian bikers are saying they have to pay.

government is never the solution - it is always the problem.

I was just about to make a rant about this, but I might as well just add to this thread. I live in Manitoba, and while I don't have my bike yet, the approximate total using the cheapest options came out to:

$2,407

This is bloody ludicrous, not to mention you can only ride in Manitoba for 5 months of the year! :frusty: Rest of the time the weather's too crappy and dangerous and winter lasts too damn long.

I was truly hoping there was another option, but if these rates don't smarten up soon, I'm resorting to a scooter. $2,500 for 5 months of riding on a 125 or 250cc motorcycle? Or $400/yr for a 500cc scooter. What the hell is wrong with these people?

The sad thing is, these rates have gone UP by $200 since 2007's season.

Maybe the government wants all of you to start driving cars.

I pay $500 a year for full coverage on a Vulcan 500 and I'm 22... a reckless age supposedly.

The basic is pretty crazy. I think I pay $300 over in Alberta for "full year basic coverage". The saleslady trying to pitch keeping it insured over the winter months with basic liability was pretty funny.

I've been riding for 4 years and had only 2 claims. Considering that I bought my insurance instead of being under my parents I have a decent history when it comes time to get a car insured.

I think it's crazy as well. It's a damned good thing I get the safe drivers discount, if I didn't and had to buy through ICBC, $5257 would be my total cost... That's without having an accident, then they start throwing unsafe driver surcharges etc, etc... getting insured could, no would, cost the same as a new bike.
