I did get an elasticized seat cover to put on my bike when it's parked in the sun. Otherwise it's going to be like sitting on the exhaust all summer. It arrived yesterday. I'll give it a shot at lunch today and report back.
hot seats are the worst, especially when you dont think about it and just jump on and start to ride a minute later you suddenly feel the heat lol. i did that a few times ended up standing on the pegs for a while until the seat coold down enough. be interesting to hear how a seat cover works out. i try to always park under shade but cant always do that.

Well...turns out, it was so nice outside it didn't occur to me to protect the seat at all...and I didn't need to.
Hmm. Forecast says it won't be near 100 until a week from Wednesday. Have to hold off until then on the product testing. Wait out the perfect riding weather.
Have I mentioned I live in the best place on Earth? Probably not. Probably shouldn't. Need to keep the immigration rate down.

Actually grew up in Michigan and that's where I learned the phenomena. I've not only dropped my old Suzuki GS650 on the side stand a couple of times, but it's been hot enough to do the same thing to the center stand.
That's how I learned turn signals cost $42.

My instructor guy for the safety course told me his bike once got stuck in the pavement. The kickstand sank in during the day, then the pavement cooled in the evening enough that he couldn't pull his bike up.

Ummm, no the kickstand doesn't get hot, the Sun heats the asphalt and it softens (asphalt is really just a mess of small rocks gooed together like a Rice Kripsy Treat, with tar). If your kickstand end is small, it may sink in and your bike could fall over.

Ummm, no the kickstand doesn't get hot, the Sun heats the asphalt and it softens (asphalt is really just a mess of small rocks gooed together like a Rice Kripsy Treat, with tar). If your kickstand end is small, it may sink in and your bike could fall over.

Ah, sorry. Knew how ashpault worked, but I was thinking that the extra heat of the metal was what pushed it over the edge, not the fact that it's weight-to-surface pressure was doing it. Silly me.

It gets hot enough around here that your boots can sink into the tar they use to patch the cracks. I always park the bike on the dirt - less chance of a cager wanting that spot anyway

im sure the kickstand gets hot as well and adds to the effect of the melting asphalt. anything metal in direct sunlight with the heat of the blacktop rising up against it is bound to get hot as well.
oh and blair, im in mesa and love it here. nice to ride all year long with no problems isnt it
i love the early 3-5am rides myself in the summer.

home depo sells 1/8" thick aluminum strips (1/8x4x10-ish) that i cut down to size (4"x4"). i countersunk one piece into my blacktop parking space, and tossed one in back for traveling... texas, august, and blacktop don't mix well! if we lived in a nicer world, a silver dollar would probly work great too lol!
