I don't know why your trust is shaken, it sounds like you had a blow out at just below the speed of light. You did fine, your bike didn't dump. I would be jumping for joy if I did as well as you under those circumstances. Actually I would be bragging to all my friends how cool I was.

Yeah, pressure was checked. I was there when they put it back on the rim and made sure they put it to the 42 PSI it was supposed to be at. I guess I've got the jitters shaken off now, dragged a peg on my way home from work tonight
That first ride home on the same freeway the flat happened on was a bit tense though.
